Manila launches dietary supplementation program

In line with the National Nutrition Month, the Manila Health Department launched a dietary supplementation program on Monday, July 11.

A 120-day feeding program was launched for the undernourished pre-school children in the City of Manila.

Mayor Honey Lacuna-Pangan, who graced the event, pointed out the importance of the city's dietary supplementation program.

"Ito pong dietary supplementation program na ginagawa natin ay nilalayon na sa loob ng 120 days, ang inyo pong mga anak ay magkaroon ng tamang timbang na karapat-dapat sa kanilang mga edad (This dietary supplementation program that we are doing is intended that within 120 days, your children will have the right weight that is appropriate for their age)," she said.

City Health Officer Dr. Arnold Pangan also said the City of Manila aims to have the best healthcare system in the entire Philippines by 2030.

A total of 215 children from Districts 2, 4, and 6 will be provided meals for 120 days as well as vitamins for the children's overall health.

Non-governmental organizations will also provide dietary supplementations for undernourished preschool children of Districts 1, 3, and 5.

The city government, through the Public Employment Service Office, will also hold livelihood programs for the parents after the program to ensure sustained proper feeding for the children.
