Zubiri, who is poised to be the Senate President in the 19th Congress, recalled that Abe is a close friend of the Filipino people.

He said Abe had been giving assistance to the Philippines through the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and Official Development Assistance (ODA) funding.

These funds were used in the field of agriculture, transportation and peace in Mindanao, he pointed out.

Zubiri said the Metro Manila Subway system is one of the legacies of Abe for the country.

‘’Kaya Maraming Salamat sa inyo (Many thanks to you) Prime Minister Shinzo Abe and may you rest in eternal Peace,’’  he added.
