DPWH completes viewing deck for San Juanico Bridge

The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) expects more tourists to be interested in visiting Leyte after it completed a viewing deck for the famous landmark in Eastern Visayas, the San Juanico Bridge.

Funded with P19.2 million, the viewing deck involves the construction of a 450-meter suspended deck slab, 80-meter walkway, and landscaping works to complement the new tourist attraction.

Also part of the project is the provision of comfort rooms and a storage room for the solar generator that will be used to lessen its maintenance costs and energy consumption.

DPWH Region 8 Director Allan S. Borromeo said the project is in support of the local tourism drive in the region.

“The completion of the viewdeck has allowed locals and visiting patrons to take beautiful photos safely, do recreational activities, and help generate livelihood opportunities for the people in Leyte,” said Borromeo.

Prior to the construction of viewdeck, Borromeo said tourists used to drive up to San Juanico Bridge and stop at the side of the road just to take pictures and cause road obstructions that can impede traffic flow.
