The country's fish unloading went up by 19.70 percent in June, the highest record for the year so far, the Philippine Fisheries Development Authority (PFDA) has disclosed.
In its monthly briefer, the PFDA noted that its General Santos Fish Port Complex unloaded 33,109.02 MT of fish, or a 30.91 percent increase, which was more than half of this month’s volume.
According to the PFDA, its Lucena Fish Port Complex has also been persistent in its monthly unloading after registering another rise in fish volume.
"The South Luzon port has recorded 2,280.69 MT of fish, equivalent to a 19.54% increase," it said.
Data showed that the PFDA's Navotas Fish Port Complex has recovered from months of decline as it logged a 14.16 percent increase or 17,605.21 MT of fish.
Notably, Sual Fish Port recorded a whopping 242.18 percent increase after the port tripled its monthly unloading volume to 384.20 MT.
Iloilo Fish Port Complex, meanwhile, had slightly stumbled in June, but still supplied 2,162.93 MT of fishery products to its consumers.
Even though it is a closed fishing season in Davao Gulf, the PFDA reported that its Davao Fish Port Complex continues its operations and provides an adequate volume of fish to its consumers at 350.50 MT.
However, its Bulan Fish Port Complex, and Zamboanga Fish Port Complex experienced “a slight dip during this period, delivering 1,298.33 MT and 941.22 MT of fish, respectively.”
