Massive flooding in Ifugao damaged P14.6M agri products so far, DA says

The estimated damage and losses to agriculture in Ifugao due to flash floods triggered by the southwest monsoon (habagat) is now at P14.6 million, according to the Department of Agriculture (DA).

Based on the reports received by the DA, a total of 684 farmers have been affected by the flash flood, affecting 198 hectares of agricultural areas as of Sunday, July 10.

The agency noted that the volume of production loss is now at 728 metric tons.

"Affected commodities include rice and high-value crops. These values are subject to validation," it said.

To assist affected farmers, the agriculture department said it will give rice, corn, and assorted vegetable seeds; drugs, and biologics for livestock and poultry.

The DA said affected farmers will be assisted through the Survival and Recovery (SURE) Program of the Agricultural Credit Policy Council (ACPC); available funds from the Philippine Crop Insurance Corporation (PCIC); and the Quick Response Fund (QRF) for the rehabilitation of affected areas.

The DA said it is in constant coordination with concerned agencies and local governments to monitor the impact of the southwest monsoon on agricultural areas.

According to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC), around 1,500 individuals or 500 families were affected by a flash flood that ravaged six barangays in Banaue, Ifugao on July 7.
