Following the claims of fraternity-related violence by a university fraternity, the University of the Philippines – Diliman (UPD) said it would investigate the matter and assured that the students involved would be held liable.
Chancellor Fidel Nemenzo, in a statement issued July 7, said UPD “strongly condemns and reiterates its stand against fraternity-related violence.”
He said this following the “disturbing photos and videos of an alleged fraternity initiation activity” that surfaced on social media.
Earlier, UPD University Student Council urged the Office of Student Ethics to conduct “fact-finding and investigation” into the alleged violence-related incidents.
The graphic photos and videos which made rounds online were uploaded by @UPSILONLEAKS on Twitter. The said account has already been suspended.
Nemenzo noted that while no UPD student has been identified or implicated in any of the photos or videos, “the appropriate units of the university will work to look into the matter and coordinate with student organizations to verify information.”
Students who are proven to have violated the UPD Student Code and the Anti-Hazing Act of 2018 will be held accountable, Nemenzo added.
