Filipino jins win big in Asian tilt


The SMART/MVP Sports Foundation National Taekwondo Team captured a total of two gold, eight silver and nine bronze medals in two prestigious tournaments recently in Chuncheon City, South Korea.

The Nationals, composed of delegation head Raul Samson, coaches Christian Al Dela Cruz and Rani Ann Ortega, Dindo Simpao, Paul Romero, Israel Cesar Cantos, Justin Kobe Macario, Arven Alcantara, Rodolfo Reyes, Jr. Joaquin Dominic Tuson, Patrick King Perez, Jeordan Dominguez, Enrico Raphael Mella, Kurt Bryan Barbosa, Laila Delo Janna Dominique Oliva, Angelica Joyce Gaw, Juvenile Faye Crisostomo, Jocel Lyn Ninobla, Laeia Simoune Soria and Baby Jessica Canabal, collected five silver and three bronze medals in the Asian Taekwondo Championships from June 22 to 27, before winning two gold, three silver and six bronze medals at the Chuncheon Korea Open Taekwondo Championships slated June 29 to July 5.

The Filipino jins competed against the best Asian counterparts which included fighters from host Korea, Iran, Chinese-Taipei, Japan, Thailand, Vietnam, Kuwait, Afghanistan, Nepal, Qatar, Pakistan, Malaysia, Cambodia, Sri Lanka, Singapore, Mongolia and Saudi Arabia.

The participation was supported by the Philippine Sports Commission, Philippine Olympic Committee (POC) and MILO.
