Khate Castillo and Afril Bernardino joined hands as the Gilas Pilipinas women's 3x3 team dispatched Jordan, 21-9, to open its FIBA 3x3 Asia Cup qualifying draw on a high note on Thursday, July 7.
It was a wire-to-wire win for the Filipinas as they utilized their quickness and precise outside sniping to outplay and eliminate the much bigger but slower Jordanians.
Bernardino and Castillo took turns in carrying the fight with seven points apiece for the Filipinas who embarked on a 7-3 start, setting the tone for the rout.
Trish Guytingco was also solid with five points, drilling two of the team's five deuces.
With the win, Gilas eliminated Jordan which earlier dropped a 16-7 decision against Thailand.
Gilas now faces the Thais – the same team which denied the Filipinas a shot at the gold medal in the 31st Southeast Asian Games – for the top seed in their qualifying group and the spot to the main draw.
