Despite being out of semifinal contention, the Lady Knights still asserted their might to improve their win-loss record to 2-6 at the bottom standings.

The victory not only snapped Letran’s three-game losing skid but also foiled Mapua’s bid to solidify its Final Four campaign as the Lady Cardinals slipped to a 4-4 mark.

Julienne Castro pumped in 19 points for the Lady Knights and spearheaded the assault late in the third where they scored five straight points to pull away from a 20-18 lead to match victory.

Castro scored three points on that stretch before Edma Musngi’s drop shot sealed the win for Letran.

“Nothing to lose, more to gain – yun yung tinatak ng mga coaches namin sa isip namin kaya in-apply namin sa larong ito,” said Castro.

Indeed, Letran played inspired volleyball as they dictated the pace despite the persistent attempts of Mapua.

Chamberlaine Cunada also shone for the Lady Knights with 14 points off 12 kills, while Shereena Urmeneta chipped in 11 points.

Letran exposed Mapua’s weak offense and reception by converting more attacks, 47-28, and managing more digs, 78-48.

None from Mapua scored in double figures with Jonina Fernandez scoring only nine points.
