Drunk man hacks uncle dead for scolding him over annoying behavior in Negros

BACOLOD CITY – A 30-year-old man allegedly hacked to death his uncle after he was scolded over his unruly behavior in Barangay Baga-as, Hinigaran, Negros Occidental Tuesday, July 5.

Police Lt. Col. Necerato Sabando Jr., town police chief, said the victim, Gregorio Gumawa, and the suspect, 30-year-old Jonel Sombo, were having a drinking session when the victim scolded the already intoxicated Sombo due to his annoying behavior.

The victim decided to send his nephew home but Sombo returned, armed with a bolo.

Sabando said that a heated altercation ensued between them until the suspect hacked the victim several times.

Gumawa sustained multiple injuries and was taken to the Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital here where he died around 4 a.m. Wednesday, July 6.

The suspect was immediately arrested by policemen who were conducting police visibility patrol in the area, according to Sabando.

Sabando said they are preparing the filing of murder or homicide charges against the suspect.
