ZAMBOANGA CITY -- Authorities here on Tuesday, July 5, intercepted an estimated P210,000 worth of illegal drugs hidden inside a package at the Zamboanga International Airport (ZIA).
A report from the Philippine Coast Guard said Bunny, a K-9 Team Zamboanga dog, detected the illegal drugs inside one of the outbound packages during the inspection at the ZIA cargo section.
Upon opening the package, the authorities found 14 sachets weighing five grams each of shabu stuffed inside a toy truck to be sent as cargo from Palawan to Zamboanga City.
Airport personnel called on Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA-9) personnel to check on the contraband.
Jury Rocamora, PDEA-9 chief, said authorities have intensified monitoring of borders normally used for transshipment of illegal drugs.
He refused to identify the shipper and recipient saying the investigation is still ongoing.
