On her 93rd birthday, Former First Lady Imelda R. Marcos is on top of the world.
‘I am the happiest person in the world. Ako lang yung naging nanay at tapos yung, naging nanay ng isang presidente na dating asawa ng isang presidente, at buhay pa ako (I am the mother of a president {Ferdinand ‘’Bongbong’’ R. Marcos Jr.} and a widow of a former President {Ferdinand E. Marcos} and I am still alive.’’
These were the words of Imelda Marcos shared by her daughter, Senator Imee Marcos, with Senate reporters during an ambush interview at the Senate building.
‘’Ah birthday party ni Mother (Ah, the birthday party of Mother), Yeah, very, very happy occasion. Kaya nakakatuwa siya (She is funnily happy),’’ she said.
Imee said they had a simple family and friends get-together.
‘’’We just had a small get-together, and her musical and arts scholars performed a small recital for her. And she was very, very pleased,’’ she added.
There was no mention whether the first Family, President Ferdinand Marcos Jr, and First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos and their three children, and other members of the Marcos family attended the celebration .
Queried whether the birthday party was held at Malacañang, Imee replied in the affirmative and said that there was a ‘’merienda.''
‘'Siyempre yung nanay ko 93 na. Matatanda na, pag sinabing party na parang ‘yugyugan’, hindi ganun, kasi they’re also ancient. But yes, we had a get-together, very simple merienda with a small recital of old friends and scholars,’’ she pointed out.
Asked whether government resources were used for that birthday celebration as asked by critics, Imee replied: ‘’I don’t think that’s the case.’’
‘’I’m sure everyone brought food as a matter of fact. It was quite funny. At saka libre naman lahat ng produkto. Bawal ba yun? Di ko alam. Kasi nagbi-birthday party rin ako nung bata ako doon eh (I also celebrated my birthdays at Malacanang when I was younger. Bawal ba yun (Is that prohibited)?’’ she asked.
