One dead, two hurt in head-on collision between two motorcycles in Cagayan


LAL-LO, Cagayan -- A backrider of a motorcycle died while the two drivers of the two motorcycles that collided head on were injured in an accident along National Highway in Brgy. Catayauan, Lal-lo on Saturday, July 2.

A belated report from Lal-lo police said the black motorcycle driven by Jerwin Bersola, 23, a resident of Brgy. Tuluttugin, Camalaniugan, Cagayan, collided with another motorcycle driven by Jomar Dela Cruz, 37, a resident of Brgy. Binag, Lal-lo, Cagayan around 4 p.m.

Initial investigation stated that Jerwin, together with backrider Ruben Pagarigan 40, of Brgy. Bessang, Allacapan, Cagayan, was traversing the National Highway toward south direction going to Magapit.

But upon reaching the sharp curve of the highway, he entered the opposite lane and collided with the fast approaching motorcycle driven by Jomar who was north-bound.

All were brought to Matilde Hospital by the Rescue 35 of Lal-lo, but unfortunately, Ruben Pagarigan was declared dead on arrival by the duty physician.

Jerwin was later transferred to Toran District Hospital, Aparri, Cagayan due to his severe condition while Dela Cruz was transferred to Cagayan Valley Medical Center in Tuguegarao City.

The two motorcycles were brought to Lal-lo Police Station for proper disposition.

Reckless Imprudence Resulting in Homicide, Serious Physical Injury, and Damage to Property are being prepared for filing against Jerwin, according to Investigator-on-Case–Staff Sergeant Victor S Abiva.
