Vice President Sara Duterte spent her first day officially as the country’s second-highest official by taking some “selfies” with supporters and attending a Holy Mass with President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.
In separate posts on Facebook, the Vice President shared photos of the mass she attended and some photos with supporters on July 1.
“Sa unang araw ko bilang Pangalawang Pangulo, dumalo tayo sa isang misa sa (In my first day as Vice President, we attended a mass at the) San Miguel Church sa (in) Manila kasama ang ating Pangulong (with our President) Ferdinand Marcos Jr.,” she wrote, while sharing some photos of her receiving the Holy Communion.
Duterte’s spokesperson Reynold Munsayac also confirmed the Vice President went to Malacañang.
Other photos showed her in the front row with Marcos while singing Church hymns. She then interacted with supporters after attending the mass.
“Pinaunlakan din natin ang "selfies" sa mga kababayang naghintay sa atin sa labas ng (We also accommodated “selfies” with our countrymen who are waiting outside the) Dr. Eva Macaraeg-Macapagal National Center for Geriatric Health, kasama na ang ilang residente ng (with other residents of the) Barangay 645,” Duterte said.
The hospital is located adjacent to the San Miguel Church.
Some photos of the Vice President showed her even talking to a toddler, while others showed her holding a phone while taking photos with the residents.
The Mass was also attended by other Cabinet secretaries and officials of the recently-installed Marcos administration led by Executive Secretary Victor Rodriguez.

In his homily, Manila Archbishop Jose Cardinal Advincula called on Marcos and Duterte to listen to “people who ask questions on their empty stomachs.”
“May we be leaders who listen to our people, especially the poor and marginalized,” he said.
