DILG lauds ‘Lupong Tagapamahala’ for handling of community disputes


The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) in Northern Mindanao has recognized the accomplishments of the Lupong Tagapamahala (Council of Elders) in the region for their excellent performance of their duties in resolving neighborhood feuds at the barangay level.

DILG 10 Regional Director Arnel Agabe stated that their exceptional handling of disagreements had significantly saved the national government millions of pesos in litigation expenses aside from decongesting the court’s voluminous number of cases.

“We congratulate our Lupong Tagapamayas for their job well done, especially that we highlight the importance of the Katarungang Pambarangay as an innovation of the justice system in the Philippines,” Agabe said.

Pursuant to Executive Order 394, s. 1997, the Lupong Tagapamayapa Incentives Awards (LTIA) was established to accord government recognition to the Most Outstanding Lupong Tagapamayapa in the country. The award illustrates official recognition of the services of Katarungang Pambarangay mediators and conciliators, and as part of deliberate efforts to acknowledge lupons that excelled in KP implementation.

For the Highly Urbanized Cities Category, the following barangays were awarded:

Barangay Canitoan, Cagayan de Oro City (Outstanding Lupong Tagapamayapa)

Barangay Gusa, Cagayan de Oro City (First Runner-Up)

Barangay Kauswagan, Cagayan de Oro City (Second Runner-Up)

Barangay Kiwalan, Iligan City (Regional Finalist)

Meanwhile, here are the awardees under the Component Cities Category:

Barangay 18-A, Gingoog City (Outstanding Lupong Tagapamayapa)

Barangay Magsaysay, Malaybalay City (First Runner-Up)

Barangay San Carlos, Valencia City (Second Runner-Up)

Barangay Maloro, Tangub City (Regional Finalist)

Further, awarded barangays under the 1st to 3rd Class Municipalities Category were:

Barangay Darumawang Ilaya, Lala, Lanao del Norte (Outstanding Lupong Tagapamayapa)

Barangay Andales, Initao, Misamis Oriental (First Runner-Up)

Barangay Tipolo, Plaridel, Misamis Occidental (Second Runner-Up)

Barangay Poblacion, Lugait, Misamis Oriental (Finalist)

Lastly, barangay awardees under the 4th to 6th Class Municipalities were the following:

During the activity, the support and contribution of the members of the Peace and Order (POC) and the Anti-Drug Abuse Council (ADAC) Performance Audit Teams were also acknowledged for the successful conduct of the audits.
