Police Brig. Gen. Samuel Nacion, officer-in-charge of the PNP-IMEG, identified the suspect as Patrolman Jassim Muhammad Plaza Aking, an active member of the Regional Mobile Force Battalion (RMFB) of the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM).

Nacion said Aking was arrested by virtue of a warrant of arrest at his house in Brgy. Rosary Heights VI last June 29 for violation of Republic Act No. 10883 or the New Anti-Carnapping Act of 2016.

“Pat. Aking is sought for not one but two anti-carnapping cases. This indicates that while serving in the police force, he wronged two civilians and may have victimized more if he hadn’t been apprehended,” Nacion said.

According to the PNP-IMEG, one of Aking’s victims was a 65-year-old man who accused him of stealing the latter’s Honda XRM motorcycle with plate number 2817 JS. The suspect’s second victim is a government employee who also accused him of stealing a Mitsubishi Strada pick-up truck with plate number LGN 882.

The vehicles were valued at P35,000 and P750,000 respectively.

The victims sought the help of the PNP on June 28 which was immediately acted upon by the law enforcers. After a day close covert surveillance, Aking was apprehended by combined elements of IMEG, PRO-BARMM, Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG), and Peace and Security Team of the Office of the Presidential Adviser on the Peace Process (OPAPP).

Aking was brought to the CIDG-BARMM office in Cotabato City for documentation and processing.
