Don Bosco parish priest to feed, provide assistance to street beggars

Rev. Fr. Fernando S. Urbano, SDB, rector and parish priest of St. John Bosco Parish in Makati City with the assistance of parishioners led by Diva Abad Santos will provide food and some help to the street beggars in the area on Saturday, July 2, as part of the outreach program of St. John Bosco Parish.

The project is particularly meaningful to Fr. Urbano, who is celebrating his birthday on July 2.

“July 2nd is the birthday of our Parish Priest. We plan to celebrate by way of reaching out to the street beggars in our community. We have selected 100 beggars and gathered them in our parish on July 2, Saturday at 7 a.m.,” said Abad Santos.

“We will have a short program for street beggars. Fr. Fernando ‘Ronnie’ Urbano will give a short talk and prayer. Food and some ‘ayuda’ will be distributed after the program. It will be from 7:30 - 9:00 am.,” she added.

St. John Bosco Parish in Makati City conducts a regular feeding program for the poor families in the area. Packed meals are distributed to 250 families every Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday as part of a program called Boscosina.

Last June 25, Fr. Urbano celebrated a holy mass, gave a short talk, and led the distribution of assistance to about 100 jeepney drivers who were badly affected by the rise in fuel prices.

“These are our ways of helping the poor in our community. Hopefully, it will be an example for others to imitate,” Abad Santos said.
