Cordillera Administrative Region celebrates 35th founding anniversary this month

BAGUIO CITY – The Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR) celebrates its month-long 35th founding anniversary starting with a kickoff program in Sagada, Mountain Province Friday, July 1.

The theme for this year's celebration is "One Autonomous Cordillera: Ensuring Social Development and Inclusive Growth in the New Normal."

With Mountain Province as host, Gov. Bonifacio Lacwasan assured that they are ready to welcome everyone joining the festivities. Lacwasan is optimistic that autonomy in the Cordillera will be realized under the Marcos administration.

Co-chairman for the celebration, the Regional Development Council-Regional Social Development Committee chaired by Department of Social Welfare and Development-CAR Director Arnel Garcia, disclosed that various events are being ironed out to form part of the simple yet meaningful event.

On July 15, 1987, President Corazon Aquino issued Executive Order No. 220 creating the CAR as a special temporary administrative region while waiting for ongoing efforts for the establishment of an autonomous region.

CAR is composed of Apayao, Abra, Benguet, Mountain Province, Ifugao, Kalinga, and Baguio City.
