Assessment of damage after 6.1 magnitude hit Cagayan on-going


CAGAYAN -- The Aparri (MDRRMO )Municipal Disaster and Risk Reduction Management Office said it is making all the necessary moves to assess the damage wrought by 6.1 magnitude earthquake that struck Cagayan province at 2:40 a.m. on Friday, July 1.

At least one house in Zone 1, in San Antonio, Aparri was damaged during the earthquake. The MDRRMO had inspected the said house but could not provide details yet at press time.

A relative of the owner of the house has appealed to residents to help a certain Gemma Unnagan.

“Siya ang aking pinsan from zone 1, San Antonio Aparri, Cagayan. Sana kahit konting help lang po salamat,” a certain Ronald A. posted on his Facebook account with photos of damaged house.

According to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology , the earthquake was tectonic in origin which struck 27 kilometers southeast of Dalupiri Island at 2:40 a.m. It was 27 kilometers deep.

Reported Intensities: Intensity V - Aparri and Calayan, Cagayan; Flora, Apayao ; Intensity IV - Penablanca and Tuguegarao City, Cagayan, and Intensity III - Vigan City and Sinait, Ilocos Sur.

Instrumental Intensities: Intensity V - Claveria, Cagayan ; Intensity IV - Laoag City and Pasuquin, Ilocos Norte; Gonzaga and Penablanca, Cagayan ; Intensity III - Vigan City and Sinait, Ilocos Sur; Ilagan, Isabela.

Intensity II - Tabuk, Kalinga and Intensity I - Baler, Aurora; Santiago City, Isabela; Dagupan City, Pangasinan.
