Motorcycles allowed on CCLEX starting July 2; safety guidelines released

CEBU CITY – Staring Saturday, July 2, motorcycles from 125cc to 399cc can start crossing the iconic Cebu-Cordova Link Expressway (CCLEX).

The Cebu-Cordova Link Corp. (CCLEC) has issued a set of guidelines that motorcycle riders will have to follow for a safe driving in the expressway.

CCLEC reminded motorcycle riders that overtaking is not allowed and only one backrider is allowed.

“Children can ride at the back provided that they wear helmets and comfortably reach the standard foot peg,” the CCLEC said.

The CCLEX is a traffic discipline zone and regulations are strictly implemented.

Speed limits for motorcycles are 40 kilometers per hours (kph) on main bridge and curves and six kph on causeway.

Riders are also urged to use the designated motorcycle lane which is located on the right and marked in blue.

Motorcycle riders must also wear proper riding gear such as standard protective helmet.

“Do not wear flip tops, sandals, slippers, or go barefoot,” said CCLEC.

Motorcycles carrying loads will not be allowed to cross the bridge as the cargo will block the side mirrors and will cover the taillight and signal lights, the CCLEC added.

The country’s longest and tallest bridge, the 8.8-kilometer expressway opened last April 30. It connects Cebu City and Mactan Island through the municipality of Cordova.
