The Roman Catholic Church observes Wednesday, June 29, the joint feast day of the pillars of the Catholic Church - Saints Peter and Paul, which is traditionally celebrated as Pope’s Day.
Manila Archbishop Jose Cardinal Advincula will lead the feast day mass at 10 a.m. at the Saints Peter and Paul Parish in Poblacion, Makati City. Holy masses will also be offered at 6 a.m. and at 8 a.m. A solemn procession follows the 8 a.m. mass
On Thursday, June 30, commemorative masses will be held at the church at 6 a.m. and at 8 a.m., which will both be followed by a procession. Parish priest Monsignor Pedro Gerardo O. Santos will also celebrate a mass at 10 a.m.
Church rites today will include prayers for the intentions of the Holy Father Pope Francis.
“The observance of Pope’s Day in celebration of the Feast of Saints Peter and Paul seeks to intensify the faithful’s understanding of the Church’s teachings and to have a full appreciation of the spiritual leadership of the Catholic Church’s leader and Vicar of Christ,” Church officials said.
Saint Peter was the first Supreme Pontiff of the Roman Catholic Church, while Saint Paul is considered to this day the greatest missionary of all time.
