Western Visayas logs 903 active Covid-19 cases


ILOILO CITY — The number of Covid-19 cases in Western Visayas climbed to 903 after several months of decline.

This was after the Department of Health (DOH)-Region 6 recorded a combined 120 new Covid-19 cases over the weekend.

There were 59 new Covid-19 cases last June 26 and 61 new Covid-19 cases last June 25.

The spike came days after the DOH-Region 6 confirmed that there are 21 cases of the Covid-19 Omicron BA.5 variant in Western Visayas.

Based on DOH-Region 6 data, Iloilo has the most number of active Covid-19 cases with 334, followed by Iloilo City with 279; Negros Occidental, 80; 72, Bacolod City; 67, Aklan; 40, Capiz; 29, Antique; and two, Guimaras.

Since the Covid-19 pandemic began during the first quarter of 2020, Western Visayas has recorded 184,503 Covid-19 cases. There were 5,985 deaths and 177,506 recoveries.
