NPA arms cache unearthed in Zambales

CAMP AQUINO, Tarlac City – An arms cache of the New People’s Army (NPA) was unearthed in Sitio Gued-Gued, Barangay Palis, Botolan, Zambales Sunday, June 26.

Lt. Gen. Ernesto Torres Jr., Armed Forces Northern Luzon Command chief, said the weapons stash was discovered by the 3rd Mechanized Battalion under the operational control of the Joint Task Force Kaugnay and the Zambales Police Office.

“Following the tip provided by a concerned citizen in the area, the troops immediately responded and discovered the terrorist arms cache in the vicinity,” Torres said.

“The continuous discovery of CTG arms caches is a way to keep them from slipping through the cracks and performing hostile attacks in the North and Central Luzon,” he added.

“Nolcom will remain relentless in our mission as defenders of the North and protectors of the people.”

Found were an 30 M1 Garand rifle; 28 cartridges caliber 30 mm ball; one M26 fragmentation hand grenade; two cartridges, 40mm; three M567 40mm; buckshot grenade; dilapidated 5.56mm M16 rifle upper receiver; subversive documents, Communist Party of the Philippines flag, food and medical supplies, and personal belongings.

Late last month, a communist arms cache was also discovered by the 3rd Mechanized Battalion in San Jose, Tarlac.
