ILOILO CITY – “Boracay: A Paradise Reborn,” a coffee table book featuring the rehabilitation efforts at world-famous Boracay Island, was launched here Thursday, June 23, by the Environmental Management Bureau, an attached agency of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR).

“This is to spread awareness on the rehabilitation process of Boracay for the past four years and to make the accomplishments of the various national government agencies,” said EMB-Region 6 (Western Visayas) Director Atty. Ramar Pascua.

The 70-page book has various photos and stories of accomplishments since the Duterte administration’s massive rehabilitation of the country’s most famous beach destination started late April 2018.

President Duterte ordered Boracay closed for an initial six months to jumpstart the government’s program to curb environmental degradation on the island.

The DENR, then led by Secretary Roy Cimatu, spearheaded the rehabilitation, being the chairman of the Boracay Inter-Agency Task Force (BIATF).

Aside from the DENR, the Department of Tourism (DOT), the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG), the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), and the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) also had its own programs to address with the various concerns in Boracay.

Pascua said that local governments and the national government agencies must continue the rehabilitation works in Boracay.
