PCG rescues 18 people after vessel runs aground off Dumaguete City waters


Personnel of the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) rescued 18 crew members of a vessel which ran aground off the waters of Dumaguete City in Negros Oriental on Wednesday, June 22.

In a statement, the PCG said all those on board the MV Fast Cat M6 were attended to after the vessel was towed to the Port of Dumaguete.

"Based on the investigation, the vessel encountered strong winds and big waves, causing it to run aground. It also damaged the starboard side of the hull," the statement read.

The said vessel had no passengers onboard when the maritime incident occurred.

Based on the initial assessment of MEPU-Negros Oriental, there were no traces of oil spill in the said vicinity waters.

An underwater inspection will be conducted to check the entire condition of the vessel.
