Outgoing CDO mayor encourages next admin to continue daily Covid-19 press briefing


CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY — The outgoing local chief executive here has encouraged the next administration to continue to conduct daily online Covid-19 press briefing to keep the people updated everyday.

Outgoing city mayor Oscar Moreno, in the said online briefer on Thursday, June 23, underscored the importance of the online press briefing to keep the residents updated on the Covid-19 status in the city.

“The people of the city need to know regularly and in a timely manner the status of Covid-19. We will have it until June 29. I would be happy to even through Zoom,” Moreno said.

The city government started the press briefing on March 13, 2020, from Monday to Saturday, providing reports on the daily Covid-19 cases, city’s health care utilization rate, policies, announcements and other important discussions.

Moreno expressed his plan to talk to the city's incumbent first district representative and mayor-elect Rolando Uy regarding the daily online briefing on Covid-19. He also said that he wanted to volunteer in helping the new administration.

Dr. Teodoro Yu Jr., medical officer of the City Health Office (CHO), who is also currently one of the guests in the briefing aside from Moreno, clarified that the press briefing is initiated to inform and not to scare the public.

“We are not creating panic here. Awareness is very important. As the mayor said, we give daily updates to the people in order for all of you to know the current situation here in our area,” Yu said in vernacular.

The said briefing on Thursday, June 23, was the 697th Covid-19 press briefing conducted by the city government.

The newly-elected city officials will officially assume their respective positions by 12:01 p.m. on June 30.
