Ruru Madrid on doing action scenes, stunts for 'Lolong'

Ruru Madrid didn't allow for a double to do his action scenes for new Kapuso series "Lolong."

Despite the danger it posed, Ruru would rather do it all himself.

Why?

Well, according to the Kapuso star, it's all about making fans see that he, Ruru Madrid, matinee idol, is actually a competent action star.

He doesn't want them to feel like he was simply "tricking" them into believing in him and his abilities.

Besides, it also feels different for him watching the fruits of his labor unfold onscreen.

"Iba yung satisfaction na nakikita ko sa TV na ako mismo yung gumagawa ng stunts," he told us during a recent virtual media conference.

"Ito yung passion ko e. I mean, nag-artista ako dahil pangarap kong maging action star," he added. "Ito po yung pinapanuod ko lang nung bata ako. And finally nabigyan ako ng opportunity na gumawa ng isang teleserye na action. That's why ayokong balewalain yung tiwala na binigay sa akin."

Ruru reiterated how he always made sure to deliver despite the hardship that comes with it.

"Every time na may pinapagawa, gagawin ko talaga kahit gaano pa kahirap kasi ganun ko kamahal yung trabaho ko."

Ruru was so gung ho about it that when he got injured doing a certain stunt, he actually didn't feel any pain.

More than anything, Ruru said: "Na feel ko yung hassle sa lahat ng tao. Because of me, ma-de-delay na naman ang show."

Note that the show was in production for three long years.

Ruru pointed out how he challenged himself and did therapy and rehab to be able to finish his scenes.

He did so even if he was not yet fully healed.

"Sabi ko kahit gaano kahirap, ibubuhos ko na. Ganun ko kamahal ang show na 'to," he said.

The 25-year-old star, who's celebrating his 10th year anniversary in showbiz, shared how he feels "fulfilled" finally completing the show.

"For me it was very challenging pero ganun yung mga tipong challenges na hinahanap ko sa buhay ko," he said.

He added, "Gusto kong ma-challenge yung sarili ko and I think ito po yung tamang program para ma-challenge ko sarili ko. And I'm very thankful and lucky to be part of this show."

The upcoming Kapuso series, inspired by the story of the largest saltwater crocodile in captivity, will tackle issues such as climate change, global warming, and the extinction of animals, among others.

The show starts airing July 4.
