DepEd launches DRRM information system

The Department of Education (DepEd), together with its focal and coordination unit for disaster—the Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Service (DRRMS) and Save the Philippines Prudence Foundation, officially launched a project called Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Information System (DRRMIS).

The DRRMIS features various web and mobile applications that may help prepare the Department, at the same time educate students in terms of disasters.

“Nabuo ang ideya ng DRRM information system bilang tugon sa sunod-sunod na mga pagsubok na kinakaharap ng Kagawaran kaugnay ng datos at impormasyon dulot ng mga kalamidad at sakuna (The idea of the DRRM information system was developed in response to the series of tests faced by the Department in relation to data and information caused by disasters and calamities),” said DepEd on Tuesday, June 21.

Among the key features of the DRRMIS are the following: RaDaR app, SWApp app, and the Comprehensive School Safety (CSS) Monitoring app.

Through the RaDaR app, sharing of updates such as infrastructure damage and casualties from field offices to the central office will be accelerated. Meanwhile, students and teachers may now conveniently identify school hazards and risks through the SWApp app.

The CSS monitoring app, on the other hand, may be utilized for the “proper sharing and reporting of data” as well as information in times of calamity. This can be used to develop policies and programs depending on the needs of field offices as well as the students and teachers.

DRRMIS was officially launched on Monday, June 20.
