‘We are always here’: Robredo assures support for successor Inday Sara


Outgoing Vice President Leni Robredo on Monday, June 20, expressed support to incoming Vice President-elect Sara Duterte and her staff, promising to always be available if they would need anything in the future.

“Kung merong mga tanong, nandito lang kami lagi (If there are questions, we are always here,” she said in a media interview in Magarao, Camarines Sur.

“Wala naman tayong hinangad kundi ‘yung mga bagong officials na (We do not wish for anything but for the new officials) will perform well dahil kapag mabuti naman ‘yung performance nila, tayo rin naman ‘yung makikinabang, buong bansa naman (if their performance is good, we will benefit, the whole country),” she added.

Robredo was in Magarao town in her home province to administer the oath of office to newly elected officials there.

She also said she is hopeful that the incoming administration will continue the “institutional projects” of the Office of the Vice President (OVP) since these are targeted for the communities.

“‘Yung mga (The) institutional projects, ako very ano naman ako, mataas ‘yung aking hopes na ipagpapatuloy kasi marami naman kaming mga staff na nasa OVP pa rin (I am very much, I have high hopes that they will continue because we have a lot of staff who are still with the OVP),” she said, adding that the transition wouldn’t be difficult.

“Ako (Me), I would like to believe na ‘yung mga projects naman namin para naman ‘yun sa mga (that our projects are for the) communities. So ako, ‘yung aking inaasahan na ipagpapatuloy din (me, I hope that those will be continued),” she added.

The outgoing Vice President has earlier met Duterte’s transition team, and even took them around the Quezon City Reception House, where the incoming Vice President will temporarily hold office.

Robredo revealed that she has written to Duterte to congratulate her and wish her well.

Her spokesman Barry Gutierrez also said they have extended an invitation to the Vice President-elect to personally attend their last general assembly on Monday, June 27.

Under Robredo’s leadership, the OVP has implemented several poverty alleviation and livelihood assistance programs.
