Sexagenarian man drowns after car falls at Samal port


The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) retrieved the body of a sexagenarian man who drowned in a freak accident in Samal Island, Davao del Norte early Saturday, June 18.

The PCG identified the fatality as Rogelio Tacder, 63, of Panabo, Davao del Norte.

According to initial investigation, Tacder was parking his car at the Mae Wess Port in Barangay Kinawitnon around 2:20 a.m. when the accident happened. At the time, Tacder was waiting for a barge that would carry him and his car from Samal to Davao.

A report from PCG said Tacder accidentally stepped on the accelerator of his car which caused it to fall to the water. Unfortunately, Tacder was trapped in the car as it slowly filled with water.

The PCG received a report about the incident and they immediately conducted a search and rescue operation.

Tacder’s body was found inside his car at 6:15 a.m. He was brought to the City Disaster Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO) for proper disposition.

Meanwhile, his car was towed and turned over to the Engineering Office of Kinawitnon Wharf for safekeeping.
