TABUK CITY, Kalinga – Marijuana plants valued at P19.5 million were destroyed in a three-day extensive marijuana eradication operation in the mountains of Barangay Loccong and Bugnay, Tinglayan, Kalinga.
The operation called “Oplan: Gunnhild” was conducted from June 14 to 16 by joint personnel of the Special Operations Unit 2, lead unit Philippine National Police (PNP)-Drug Enforcement Group, Tinglayan Municipal Police Station, Regional Mobile Force Battalion Police-Police Regional Office Cordillera, 1503rd Company, and PNP-Special Action Force, 2nd Company Kalinga Provincial Mobile Force Company.
In the first site, 500 fully grown marijuana plants (FGMP) worth P1 million were pulled out and 2,500 FGMP valued at P500,000 in the second site.
In the third and fourth sites, 15,000 FGMPs valued at P3 million were uprooted while 45,000 FGMPs worth P9 million were destroyed in the fifth site. In Barangay Bugnay, 30,000 FGMPs amounting to P6 million were destroyed.
Kalinga police chief Police Col. Peter Tagtag Jr. said five plantations were discovered in Barangay Loccong and one in Barangay Bugnay.
Tagtag said all in all, 93,500 FGMPs with a Standard Drug Price of P19.5 million planted in 9,750-square meters of land were uprooted and burned.
