Jose Rizal University (JRU) wore down Emilio Aguinaldo College (EAC) in the first two sets to hack out a 26-24, 25-21, 25-16 victory Friday in NCAA women’s volleyball at the Paco Arena.
The Lady Bombers worked in the crunch to escape a close opening set, then set the tone in the next two frames to nail their second straight win and share the early lead with the College of St. Benilde Lady Blazers and the Arellano Lady Chiefs.
Renesa Melgar stepped up anew for JRU by posting 11 points including 10 kills, while Syndey Mae Niegos also scored 10 points, all coming from attacks.
Reinforcements also came from Dolly Versoza, who had nine points, as well as Riza Rose and Mary May Ruiz, who added seven points each.
The Lady Bombers needed an hour and a half to dispatch their foes, banking on their strong offense and sharp serves.
JRU drilled in 42 kills against EAC’s 34, while also firing eight aces.
Cathrine Almazan and Krizzia Reyes scored 12 and 11 points for EAC, which slowly lost its steam in the third frame to absorb its second defeat in as many outings.
