3 NPA members surrender, yield firearms in Quezon


Three members of the New People’s Army (NPA) have surrendered to authorities in Quezon.

They were identified as Manny San Juan, alias “Jojo,” 25, a member of the Cesar Batralio Command; Gellie Barredo, alias “Grace,” 23, a member of the Platun Batangas, and Regile Aningat, alias “Star,” a member of Platun 2, Guerilla Front Narciso, Sub-Regional Military Area 4-A, Southern Tagalog Regional Party Committee (STRPC).

San Juan and Barredo surrendered through the efforts of the local End Local Communist Armed Conflict (ELCAC) under “Coplan Great Dane” at the San Rafael patrol base of the Army 85th Infantry Battalion in Lopez, Quezon.

They turned over high-powered firearms – a US carbine and an M14 rifle.

Aningat, on the other hand, surrendered to the military and police under “Coplan Oprington” in Barangay Poblacion, Infanta, Quezon.

Aningat, who surrendered an M16A1 Bushmaster and magazine with bullets, is now under the custody of the military in Barangay West Talaongan, Cavinti, Laguna for initial custodial debriefing.

The local government units where the three rebels surrendered are coordinating with the Armed Forces and Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) to enable them to avail of Enhanced Comprehensive Local Integration Program (ECLIP) benefits and other necessary support.
