DOH cites Caloocan City for exceeding children vaccination target

The Department of Health (DOH) cited Caloocan City for exceeding the vaccination target of its "Chikiting Bakunation Days" campaign, the local government announced on Tuesday, June 14.

Incumbent Mayor Oscar "Oca" Malapitan and Dr. Evelyn Cuevas, city health officer, received the certificate of recognition from DOH- National Capital Region (NCR) director Dr. Gloria Balboa.

The campaign was launched in the city to vaccinate children 0 to 23 months old or those born during the COVID-19 pandemic against diseases such as polio, hepatitis B, measles, rubella, and mumps.

According to the local government, 15,432 kids were vaccinated, which is 101 percent of the 15,188 target.

The vaccinations were held at the barangay health centers from May 30 to June 10.

City health workers also conducted house-to-house vaccinations where they used a "rolling speaker" while going around barangays to spread information about the campaign and encourage parents to have their kids immunized.

The mayor thanked the members of the City Health Department who led the inoculations in Caloocan.
