Man arrested in Cebu City for blackmailing woman by threatening to spread her intimate photos

CEBU CITY – A man was arrested after he allegedly threatened to spread the nude photos of a woman if she would not pay him or have sex with him.

Mark Anthony Daclan, a graduate of Bachelor of Science in Information Technology, was arrested in an entrapment operation conducted by agents of the National of Bureau of Investigation-Central Visayas (NBI Region 7).

Daclan was arrested last June 6 in downtown Cebu City here where the suspect and the supposed victim met.

The NBI Region 7 said that last May 30, the victim received a message request on Facebook Messenger from certain “Jade Axe,” who later turned out to be Daclan.

The woman was told that the person who sent her the message had something very important to share with her.

“Believing on the urgency of the matter, Ivana engaged Daclan and it was there that she learned that Daclan had her intimate photos,” the NBI Region 7 said.

She got worried when Daclan showed some of her nude photos his possession.

Daclan, of Barangay Labangon here, claimed that he copied and saved the woman’s intimate photos from a mobile phone that was swapped at Facebook Marketplace.

In their conversation through Messenger, Daclan told Ivana that he would not spread the photos if the woman pays him or have sex with him.

Alarmed by the man’s threat, Ivana sought help from NBI Region 7.

The woman agreed to meet Daclan in downtown Cebu City.

During the meeting, Ivana paid Daclan but the suspect still insisted to have sex with her and brought her to a lodging house about 500 meters from where they met.

As the man brought Ivana to the lodging house, NBI Region 7 agents moved in and arrested the suspect.

The NBI Region 7 said a charge for violation of Republic Act (RA) No. 9995 or the Anti-Photo and Video Voyeurism Act in relation to RA 10175 or the Cybercrime Prevention Act of 2012 was filed against the suspect.
