Son beats mother to death in Misamis Oriental town

CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY -- A 56-year old mother was beaten to death by her own son at Purok 2, Barangay Camuayan, Balingasag town in Misamis Oriental province on Friday afternoon, June 10.

The local police of Balingasag identified the suspect as Danilito Gonzales, 35, who admitted the killing of his mother Geogita Gonzales inside their residence.

Maj. Teodoro de Oro, chief of the Balingasag police, in a phone interview on Saturday, June 11, told Manila Bulletin that the suspect inflicted his mother with heavy punches.

As if that was not enough, the suspect also hit his mother with stone on the face.

The barangay personnel, de Oro said, immediately brought the victim to the nearest hospital. However, she was declared dead on arrival.

“She had been brought to the hospital by the barangay official. But it’s too late. It was declared dead on arrival by the hospital,” de Oro said in vernacular.

Initial investigation by the police revealed that Geogita locked every door, including the windows of their house after she noticed something unusual in her son.

De Oro said that Danilito became aggressive as he wanted to leave their house. However, his mother prevented him from going out. This led the suspect to beat his mother.

De Oro said the suspect has no record if he is using illegal drugs. The police also could not say anything about the suspect’s state of mind.

“As we observed, it seems that there is something unusual in the suspect as he is very quiet and always hiding in the comfort room. We always check on him to make sure nothing will happen,” de Oro said.

The victim’s body was brought to Ranas Funeral Parlor in Barangay Linggangao, Balingasag while the suspect is temporarily detained at the custodial facility of Balingasag Municipal Police Station for filing the case.
