Manila Archbishop Jose Cardinal Advincula will preside over the “Misa Mayor” or high mass on Sunday, June 12, at the Most Holy Trinity Parish in Sampaloc, Manila, in solemn observance of Trinity Sunday.

Novena masses in honor of the feast were held from June 3 to 11. Papal Nuncio Archbishop Charles John Brown will preside over the last of the nine day novena masses on Saturday, June 11, at 6 p.m.

This year’s celebration of Trinity Sunday coincides with the 90th parish fiesta.

Observed on the Sunday after Pentecost, the liturgical color for the masses is white to symbolize the holiness and perfection of God.

On Trinity Sunday, many congregations traditionally recite the Athanasian Creed, the Christian Church’s confession of the doctrine of the Most Holy Trinity - the three persons in one God - all three of whom as distinct and co-eternal persons. Named after Athanasius, a fourth century Egyptian bishop and theologian, the Athanasian Creed is one of the three ecumenical creeds universally accepted by the Christian Church along with the Apostles’ Creed and the Nicene Creed.

Pope John XXII instituted the celebration of the Solemnity of the Most Holy Trinity for the Universal Church as early as 1334 A.D. Aside from the Roman Catholic Church, all Western liturgical churches – Anglican, Lutheran, and Methodist will likewise observe religious rites in celebration of the Christian doctrine of the Most Holy Trinity.
