Lady Comelec official gunned down in Zamboanga del Norte

ZAMBOANGA CITY – A lady Commission on Elections (Comelec) election officer was gunned down in Piñan, Zamboanga del Norte Thursday, June 9.

The victim was identified as Engr. Maricel Adriatico Peralta, 45, Comelec election officer of Mutia, Zamboanga del Norte, and a resident of Polo, Dapitan City.

Initial reports said Peralta was driving her car with Assistant Election Officer Marites Inding, 52, as passenger on Lapu-Lapu Bridge at around 8:30 p.m. when they were shot by gunmen onboard a motorcycle.

Peralta died on the spot while Inding was reportedly unharmed.

The gunmen escaped after the incident.

Police are still investigating the incident and looking into poll-related issues as a possible motive.
