Rains, thunderstorms to prevail in Batanes, Babuyan Islands due to frontal system

The frontal system may bring cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms in Batanes and Babuyan Islands over the next 24-hour period, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said on Thursday, June 9.

“Sa kasalukuyan ay umiiral pa rin ang frontal system dito sa extreme northern Luzon, samantalang intertropical convergence zone (ITCZ) naman ang nakakaapekto sa silangang bahagi ng Mindanao. Wala tayong nakikitang low pressure area (LPA) o bagyo na nakakaapekto sa buong bansa (Currently, the frontal system still prevails in the extreme northern Luzon, while the ITCZ affects the eastern part of Mindanao. We do not see any LPA or tropical cyclone affecting the entire country),” said PAGASA weather specialist Samuel Duran in a public weather forecast.

Due to the frontal system, cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms are expected in Batanes and Babuyan Islands, while the rest of Luzon may experience humid weather with a high chance of isolated thunderstorms in the afternoon or evening.

Residents of Visayas and Mindanao, on the other hand, will continue to experience generally fair and humid weather with isolated rain showers due to localized thunderstorms.

Meanwhile, no gale warning is in effect over the country’s seaboards, which means that fishing boats and other small sea crafts are allowed to venture out into the sea.
