ZAMBOANGA CITY – The National Wages Productivity Commission (NWPC)-Region 9 (Zamboanga Peninsula) has announced an increase in the daily wage for workers in the region during a press conference Thursday, June 9.

Wage orders RIX-DW-03 and RIX-21 dated June 2 and 7 respectively, called for a P35 wage increase for non-agricultural, hospital, education, and private workers and a P20 increase for the agricultural, retail, and service sectors by June 25 this year.

Wage Order RIX-21 now entitles a worker in the non-agricultural and retail sector with 31 workers and above a daily rate of P351 from the previous P316. Retail workers with less than 31 workers will receive P338 from the previous P303.

Meanwhile, micro and small retail and service establishments and the agricultural sector will implement the daily wage hike in two tranches.

Workers in the agricultural and retail and service sectors with nine workers or less will receive an additional P20 increase during the first tranche in June and an additional P15 during the second tranche by Oct. 1 this year.

Workers in these categories will receive P323 for the first tranche, which will eventually be increased to P338 by October 2022 when the second tranche is implemented.

Wages of “kasambahay” or domestic workers will increase from P3,500 for chartered and highly urbanized cities and from P3,000 to P3,500 for municipalities.

The new wage order is expected to benefit 269,767 workers in private establishments and 18,984 domestic workers working in the Zamboanga Peninsula.
