Three construction workers die of gas suffocation in Quezon


MULANAY, Quezon --Three construction workers died due to suffocation allegedly caused by natural gas they inhaled in an excavation site in sitio Sampiro, Brgy. Patabog in this town on Tuesday afternoon, June 7.

Officer-on-case police Senior Master Sergeant Allan Ayeng of Mulanay Municipal Police Station identified the fatalities as Jesus Loresto Largo III, 19, a resident of Brgy. Dallas, Labo, Camarines Norte; Mac Mac Largo Valenzuela, 18, of Brgy. Masalong, Labo Camarines Norte, and Sandy Azuelo Basillo, 27, of Maculabo, Paracale, Camarines Norte.

They were unconscious when brought by their co-workers to Dr. Reynoso Clinic where they were declared dead on arrival.

Police said John Christopher Rey De Rama, a co-worker of the victims, reported that the incident happened at around 3 p.m. while the victims were excavating for a bridge column.

De Rama told the investigator that the victims went digging up to 7.5 meters in depth and are believed to be suffocated by still unknown chemicals that caused them to lose their consciousness.

Police are still conducting an investigation into the victims’ death caused by alleged natural gas.
