ILOILO CITY – The city government is implementing cost-cutting measures to save money and reduce operating expenses.

“There is a need to adopt measures not only for employees, but also for all offices in order to have savings for the city government's expenses for the (remaining) year of 2022,” said Mayor Jerry Treñas here.

Treñas has issued Executive Order (EO) No. 2022-057 adopting the resolution of the Resource Employees Association of the City Hall (REACH) that backs the cost-cutting measures of the city government.

“In order to effectively carry out services for the Ilonggos, all offices must be operating at a high level, which may prove to be costly energy-wise and deemed impractical,” noted Treñas.

“Unnecessary use of office equipment and facilities such as but not limited to the use of computers, airconditioners, and government vehicles are strictly discouraged to reduce the maintenance cost.”

The executive order in particular outlines changes at the operation of the seven-story Iloilo City Hall. It includes using the airconditioning system from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. only.

The Iloilo City mayor also decided to stop the free bus service which was initially offered after the lockdown was lifted during the first year of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Another cost-cutting measure is discouraging official travel of city officials that are beneficial to the city government.
