The Mandaluyong City Police filed on Wednesday, June 8, charges against three security personnel of the subdivision where the owner of the white sports utility vehicle (SUV) involved in the hit-and-run incident in Mandaluyong lives.
In an interview with GMA, Mandaluyong City Police chief Col. Gauvin Mel Unos said that a case of obstruction of justice was filed against the three security personnel before the Quezon City Prosecutor’s Office after they barred twice the investigators from going to the suspect's house in Barangay Old Balara.
"Nasampahan na po ng kaso mga security guards kaninang umaga ng obstruction of justice. Tatlo po. Kasama dun ang security officer (A case of obstruction of justice was filed against the security guards this morning. There are three respondents, including the security officer)," Unos said.
"Kung may ganun tayo na mga activities o police follow-up, ibig sabihin it is to serve justice to the victim. So, kung tayo eh pinagbawal po, ‘yun po ang sinasabi nating obstruction of justice that is because justice has not been served (If we are conducting such activities or police follow-ups operations, it means we are doing it to serve justice to the victim. So, if we are barred from doing it, then that's obstruction of justice because justice has not been served)," he said in a separate interview.
Earlier, the police filed cases of frustrated murder and abandonment of one’s victim against the SUV's owner Jose San Vicente after he hit and ran over security guard Christian Joseph Floralde, while managing the flow of traffic at the intersection of Julio Vargas Avenue and St. Francis Street on Sunday.
The 31-year-old security guard was rushed to VRP Medical Center where he is currently in the intensive care unit.
San Vicente's driver's license was also suspended by the Land Transportation Office (LTO) for 90 days while investigation is ongoing.
