Sotto wants NBI to probe man maltreating woman with a child in viral video


The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) has started it investigation Into the reported boxing by a man of a woman who holding her child while inside a house.

After being hit with a left hook, the woman fell on the floor, still carrying the baby.

The probe followed a request by outgoing Senate President Vicente C. Sotto III who asked the NBI to step in after viewing the incident that went viral.

He had asked his lawyer, Marian Lucinario, to coordinate with the NBI to have this investigated, an incident that took place two years ago.

Sotto said the incident could still be investigated although it happened two years ago the prescriptive period of Republic Act (RA) 9662, or Violence Against Women and Their Children Act, is long.

He texted Senate reporters to say that NBI Director Eric Distor created today a special team to look into the incident.

The video was posted at the Facebook account of REGTV that created 100,000 reactions, more than 20,000 comments when uploaded in May, 2020.

Sotto said he himself would like to file the case against the man.

In his text messages, Sotto appeared emotionally affected by the shirtless man hitting the woman who was holding her baby.
