Baguio Bishop Victor Bendico, chairman of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines-Episcopal Commission on Liturgy, called on the incoming administration to spread the culture of justice and unity in the country.

“Cultivate the culture of unity and solidarity, work for the common good, and negate all forms of violence in running the government,” Bishop Bendico urged the incoming administration in his message for Pentecost on Sunday, June 5.

“With the new government administration, let us not put on a spirit of slavery. Let us be led by a spirit of freedom. We are a free people in a free nation. In a free country, there can only be a free citizen – citizens who love their country and work hard for the common good,” said Bishop Bendico over Radio Veritas.

The Church leader, likewise, appealed to everyone to let the spirit of unity and love for country prevail now that the election is over. “Just like the message of Pentecost, let unity among us prevail guided by the power of the Holy Spirit,” he said.

“Brothers and sisters in Christ, the essence of Pentecost is unity. There were images of winds and fire which broke down the barriers of fear, anxiety and worry among the disciples,” the prelate said as he expressed hope for the country where justice, peace and unity must always prevail.
