14 houses razed in Cebu City fire


CEBU CITY – At least 14 houses were destroyed in a fire that hit Barangay Tisa here Monday, June 6.

The fire started at 6:34 a.m. and was contained about an hour later.

According to the Cebu City Fire Department, the fire started at the house owned by one Jasmine Lodonia before it spread to neighboring houses. The fire displaced at least 10 families. Fire damage was pegged at P3.5 million.

Several hours after the fire in Tisa, firefighters also responded to another fire in a densely populated area in Barangay Ermita, this city.

The fire, which happened at the back of Carbon Market, started at around 3 p.m. The fire was put under control at 3:42 p.m.

Details as to the extent of damage in the Barangay Ermita fire were not available yet as of posting time.

The two fires here happened three days after that at the public market of Danao City in northern Cebu. The fire razed at least 100 stalls with fire damage reaching more than P52 million.

The city government has started providing assistance to vendors displaced by the fire.

Aside from giving sacks of rice and financial assistance, the city government has also started preparing the relocation site for the affected vendors.

The city government has already identified at least seven areas that will temporarily house the affected vendors.

It took nearly 12 hours before firefighters were able to contain the fire in the public market which housed close to 1,000 vendors.
