DAVAO CITY – Senator Christopher Lawrence ‘Bong’ Go said he will still push for the enactment of a law that calls for the re-imposition of the death penalty in the coming Congress under the new administration.
Go said in an interview at Davao Oriental Provincial Medical Center in Mati City on Thursday that he will file another Senate bill seeking the re-imposition of the death penalty to heinous crimes involving illegal drugs and plunder.
Go explained that all the achievements of the administration under outgoing President Duterte will go down the drain if the proliferation of illegal drugs that cause most of the crimes in the country will become rampant again.
“Sayang po yung gains na ginawa natin pag bumalik po ang droga. Babalik na naman po ang korapsyon at kriminalidad kasi makokorap na naman ang tao pag andyan ang droga,” Go pointed out.
“Ang kampanya po ni Pangulong Duterte laban sa droga, kriminalidad at korapsyon sa gobyerno ay dapat ipagpatuloy,” he stressed.
The senator said that all the heinous crimes are connected with each other which should be stopped by having a stiff penalty such as a death sentence.
Go said if a person is not afraid of committing crimes due to the influence of illegal drugs, violence will prevail again in the streets.
“Sayang po ang inumpisahan ni Pangulong Duterte. Ako naman po , napatunayan naman na in the past six years, tingnan niyo na mas nakakalakad ang inyong mga anak pauwi sa inyong bahay na hindi nababastos at hindi nasasaktan,” he said.
However, Go said that the proposal will still be up for his co-legislators if they agree with it since he only has one vote to push it to become a law.
“Ang tanong, eh kung susuportahan ng 23 senador, wala naman pong problema diyan,” he said.
Go said he is hoping that other senators and the members of the House of Representatives will support and vote for the approval of the proposal to bring back death penalty.
