Two laborers electrocuted, two others injured after pole intended for internet strikes high tension wire in Benguet


TUBA, Benguet -- Two laborers were killed while two others were injured after they were electrocuted while installing an internet pole at Proper Camp 3, Kennon Road, Tuba, Benguet, on Wednesday afternoon.

The dead victims were identified as Joseph Panoy Vallejos, 55, resident of 52A Interior C, Balacbac, Sto. Tomas Proper, Baguio City and Lorimer Dela Cruz Ruazol, a.k.a “lollipop”, 40, of 95 Interior C, Balacbac, Sto. Tomas Proper, Baguio City.

Benzar Casiano Vicente, 24, a native of Roxas, Isabela, and a resident of Bengao, Baguio City and Randy Lapitan Leonen, 41, of No. 118, Purok 6, Irisan, Baguio City, both suffered body burns in the incident.

A Tuba Municipal Police Station report that was based on the statement of Efren Martes, 51, of Balacbac, Baguio City revealed that the four laborers were electrocuted as the post they were installing on the side of the road accidentally touched the primary line of the Benguet Electric Cooperative (Beneco).

Like Martes, the four victims were employees of Converged Internet Company.

The emergency vehicle of Barangay Camp 3, Tuba, Benguet responded immediately and rushed the four victims to the Baguio General Hospital and Medical Center, but the two of them were declared dead on arrival.

Vicente sustained burns on his left hand and foot, while Leonen suffered burns on his face. The two allegedly suffered sustained tremors while being treated at the hospital.
