BI nabs overstaying American

Bureau of Immigration (BI) agents arrested an overstaying American who is also the subject of numerous complaints by his neighbors in Cebu.

Immigration Commissioner Jaime Morente said 67-year-old Sunny Miller is now detained at the BI holding facility in Cebu following his arrest in Barangay Punta, San Remigio town by operatives from the BI intelligence division.

Morente said he ordered the arrest of the American after receiving complaints from barangay officials that Miller has repeatedly caused trouble in the area.

“The complainants also alleged that he has been engaging in gainful business activities without the appropriate business permit and visa in blatant violation of our immigration laws,” Morente added.

The BI chief said Miller will be slapped with a deportation case prior to the issuance of deportation order by the BI board of commissioners.

BI intelligence chief Fortunato Manahan Jr. said Miller’s authorized stay in the country had already lapsed, making him an overstaying alien subject to summary deportation.

Manahan said the complainants accused Miller of intimidation for occupying a coastal land preventing them from using the property in fishing and other livelihood activities

Punta barangay council had passed a resolution declaring Miller persona non grata for being an undesirable visitor.
