Female holdup suspect nabbed, male accomplice escapes after victimizing convenient store in Laguna


LAGUNA -- A woman was arrested while her male companion escaped and carted away the stolen money after they held up a convenience store in Binan City on Saturday night, May 28.

The suspect was identified as Celeste Mercado, 44, and a resident of No. 71, Burgos St., Brgy. Isip Norte, San Manuel, in Pangasinan, according to Laguna Police provincial director Colonel Cecilio Ison Jr.

Based on the investigation conducted by the Binan City Police Station, around 8:02 p.m. on May 28, when the suspects held up the Alfamart, Alfa-Metro Marketing located at the University Central in Brgy. San Antonio in Binan City.

A store crew named Ronald Rey Espinosa said that the two suspects who were armed with guns, entered the store premise, fired twice upwards, hitting the ceiling and announced a hold-up.

The suspects grabbed the contents of the cash register containing P12,510.

The fleeing suspects caught the attention of the people in the area who chased them. Mercado was cornered, but her male companion was able to escape.

Coincidentally, policemen were patrolling the vicinity of the convenient store, hence the police were able to respond quickly upon receiving the information.

Found in the possession of Mercado were a .38 caliber revolver, two bullets, a deformed fired bullet, and two fired cartridge cases.
